Week 9

Week 9 (Entire Week)

Day 1 (Mon 14)

I brought in the needed supplies to start on the final site. Using what I've learned in addition to a few new techniques, I've created the template to a professional looking site. Overall, plenty was crossed off the "to-do list", but the more I do, the more gets added.

Tomorrow I look to tweak the features it includes and watch a video on some additional things I can do to spice up the site.

Day 2 (Tues 15)

This day was devoted to states and improving the user interface. It is responsive to mouse hovering and clicking effects. Not only does it look good, but it helps to get around the site better.

So far, the site has a simple but appealing design. It revolves around the central theme of "heat", while also staying clean with metal tones. Compared with the current, live site, it's already a night and day difference - and this new site isn't even done.

I'd like to use Day 3 to find some additional effects for the home page.

Day 3 (Wed 16)

More effects were added, plus some changes to the 'FAQ' section. Usage of the first online widget so far was applied to this section of the site, a "burning text" widget, which adds visual appeal to the words. Unfortunately it's restricted to one type of font only.

From the "to-do" list created last week, the steps taken thus far this week show major progress... the website is better than I anticipated, and I've been able to add a few additional features which I didn't know. Information still needs to be added, and the Home page could use some work, however the original list is pretty much complete. As of now, it's a process of constantly tweaking small pieces and finding ways to make it better.

Thursday's class goal is to make the footer better, while also attempting to add pictures to the home page.

Day 4 (Thurs 17)

Yesterday's goals were accomplished. The footer now is organized with a symbol widget that is paired with hyperlinks to both social media and the different website pages. The color scheme was fixed in the footer, no longer having a weird off-centered appearance to the footer. A slideshow widget also was added to the homepage, replacing the awful, standard Muse one.

The site is well over half-way done... but still could use some more effects to make it pop. Though everything I wanted and more is already accomplished, Friday's block will be used to clean up the look and also add any other finishing touch widgets.

Day 5 (Fri 18)

Final day of the week... and I'm pleased with how I created the majority (85-90%) of a website in about five hours work time. Surprisingly, the features used in the past weeks weren't relied upon as much as I thought. Most of the pieces that make up this site are new to my Muse knowledge from this week. I now know more about widgets, gradients, hyperlinks and web-response than prior to this week.

Week 9 Thoughts

Despite the success, this doesn't really appeal to me as something I want to present. As fascinating muse is, the fascination comes at a personal level to the person that create it. Presenting something like this seems dry... unappealing to other students. Hopefully I can try and create or find something along these lines to use to create a presentation on.
