Week 5

Week 5 Progress

It may be of concern considering this is not a necessarily easy program to use considering we have 80 minutes per week to apply the skills. More efficient use of time will have to be put into play for a successful site.

What has happened that you did not expect?

I decided to put the skills learned in some tutorials to use. I learned how to make my own template with color swatches and how to upload images (with the ability to add effects). For the final copy though, I will likely use a downloaded template from a site which I found through a youtube tutorial. It is unexpected to see how big Muse really is: there are tutorials in the hundreds on youtube. This was something that is great to find and expand to the use of the project. 

What is the best thing that has happened?

Muse clearly has hidden details which I still need to work around. Next week should include a jump in progress that may put widgets to use. Widgets appear to be a huge feature and necessity to Muse - part of why the professional websites that are made with Muse are so good. Discovering some of these features and continuing to find more is definitely a perk that will help with Genius Hour progress.

Week 4

Today was spent entirely watching the tutorial videos. They gave an in-depth view that displays how Muse works and what we can get out of the program. After viewing them, I was able to create the start of a template in which I understood, unlike previous attempts that were purely experimental. Unfortunately I couldn't follow along in the entirety of the tutorial since the Creative Cloud application is not on the computer, which limits what can be saved and accessed. Many of the tutorials directly correlate to the second-party application. Next week, hopefully the program can be added, which will in effect allow me to begin the first 'real' website.

Week 10

Week 10  Week 10... and nearly presentation time. The site is 95% finished. Essentially everything I could do at school is done (asides from improving the purchase form, but finding solutions to that has been difficult). The goal from day one has been met - to create a fully functioning and stunning website in a limited amount of time.  I'm happy for what I've been able to use Muse for, but presenting was something that deterred me from wanting to use muse. Despite working hard hours on this program, people are less likely to want to listen to someone talk about their own website than they would to listen in on some of my pier's projects... robotics, photoshop, music creators and animation are far more captivating and interesting to onlookers than a website... especially a website used for my personal use.  One difference from my Genius hour to some of the others in this class is that I am using it for a specific purpose.
