KWL: Genius Hour 2018

KWL

Based on the will to create a stunning website for a personal company, I'm interested in looking into the MUSE software from Adobe.

What I know

  • User-friendly website creation
  • Drag and drop features
  • Adobe programs have plenty of tutorials to learn from. 
  • Friendly for inexperienced users
  • Makes the best use out of your time
  • No code is required to create the website. 
  • I have an actual need to create a website, rather than just doing it as a 'filler' or out of strictly interest.

What I want to learn

  • If this program really makes the design process so easy, I want to learn it's applications to real life.
  • While having a need to create a website for a small company, templates are often limited or too difficult to make use out of. A more simple and responsive program would help me grow the small business while not wasting time on a difficult software.
  • I want to learn the tips and tricks behind it to make it more than just a school project, but something that I want people to see. Currently, the website behind the hot sauce company is rather embarrassing and doesn't represent it how I desire. Learning the features for it here at school and applying them at home would be an excellent way to accomplish something I've been needing to do for a long time. 
  • Perhaps by learning photoshop later on , I could merge these two programs to avoid the use of stock pictures and flawed images. I believe the two programs would go hand in hand for computer business application and design. 
  • I'm wanting to understand the application for web design to business and the importance of it later on when I consider a long term career. 
  • Understand the process of creating a website and what people do to reach their end goal.

Week 4

Today was spent entirely watching the tutorial videos. They gave an in-depth view that displays how Muse works and what we can get out of the program. After viewing them, I was able to create the start of a template in which I understood, unlike previous attempts that were purely experimental. Unfortunately I couldn't follow along in the entirety of the tutorial since the Creative Cloud application is not on the computer, which limits what can be saved and accessed. Many of the tutorials directly correlate to the second-party application. Next week, hopefully the program can be added, which will in effect allow me to begin the first 'real' website.

Week 10

Week 10  Week 10... and nearly presentation time. The site is 95% finished. Essentially everything I could do at school is done (asides from improving the purchase form, but finding solutions to that has been difficult). The goal from day one has been met - to create a fully functioning and stunning website in a limited amount of time.  I'm happy for what I've been able to use Muse for, but presenting was something that deterred me from wanting to use muse. Despite working hard hours on this program, people are less likely to want to listen to someone talk about their own website than they would to listen in on some of my pier's projects... robotics, photoshop, music creators and animation are far more captivating and interesting to onlookers than a website... especially a website used for my personal use.  One difference from my Genius hour to some of the others in this class is that I am using it for a specific purpose.
